圣约翰中华文化协会25周年庆- Chinese Cultural Association of Saint John 25th Anniversary Gala Lion Blessing -雄狮献瑞The Lion Dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion‟s movements in a lion costume. The lion is traditionally regarded as a guardian creature and brings good luck and fortune to people, so the dance is usually performed either as entertainment for the imperial court or as a ceremony to exorcise evil spirits and to summon luck and fortune. In modern days, you can see the Lion Dance used to celebrate during Chinese New Year and other traditional festivals, or for business ground openings. There are normally two people in one lion; one dances in the lion‟s head; the other one is in the rear part. Sometimes a third person uses a silk ball to tease the „Lion‟; or puts on a funny mask to stir up the happy atmosphere. Majestic Silk Ribbon-Fan Dance -开门红In Chinese tradition red colour means good fortune and great happiness. The literal translation of this dance music is “seeing red when door is opened” meaning to make a good beginning; to get a good start. Solo Dance from the Tang Dynasty -梦回大唐This is a classical Chinese dance that rediscovers the spectacular and rich dance culture of the Tang Dynasty -one of the dynasties in Chinese history that forever inspires and makes Chinese people proud. Baby Lion Dancers
LL and QQ brought their Lion Dance costume to our 2011 Families With Children from China Lunar New Year party. The martial artists from Tai Yim Kung Fu School were very encouraging to the “baby lion”, and gladly let them join the performance!! Much to their surprise, they received many red envelopes (hong bao) intended as tips for the Tai Yim guys – which we turned over to them! Seems a lot of little kids were afraid to give their hong bao to the big lion, but the baby lion was sized “just right”!! The girls were given lots of tips and pointers by Tai Yim, and told to practice… they were invited to do a reprise at their school’s World Fest with the same martial artists in April!

Lion’s Club Halloween Parade 2010
For the second year in a row, the boys win an award at the Swarthmore Lion’s Club Halloween parade. This year, they placed second in the group category, up from last year’s third place finish. They were the “Three Little Rigs”. Quinn was a recycling truck. Colin an Allied moving van. And Rhys an ambulance. They all had working headlights, and Rhys had a button he could press to make the red lights on top flash.
